WHY WAS TEAM NZ SO DOMINATING?

Team NZ has been dominating through innovation
Looking back, Dennis Green sums it up:
- 1987 - The Plastic boat.
- 1989 - The BIG boat! USA cheated.
- 1992 - The bowsprit.
- 1995 & 2000 - Best design.
- 2003 - The best design but a lack of funding with the campaign run by suits, the boat was not strong enough. It was very fast though.
- 2003 to 2013 - Didn’t take much notice, so cannot comment.
- 2013 - Innovative to perfect foiling, but gave the advantage away as the USA caught up. NZ was a bit unlucky. Perhaps some suspect things going on.
- 2016 - Innovative, teamwork.
- 2021 - Best design. Given the challengers had the advantage of good racing I think it cannot be construed they were at any disadvantage, and Team NZ was NOT dominating through local knowledge.
More on Team NZ & The America’s Cup:
36th Americas Cup
Once again Emirates Team New Zealand has entered the history books and won America’s Cup for New Zealand for the fourth time.
On day 7 of the 36th America’s Cup presented by PRADA, the Kiwis scored the 7th point they needed to raise the Auld Mug in front of thousands of spectators.A spectacular achievement for Emirates Team New Zealand and the yacht club they represent, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Another confirmation that – in sailing – the Southern hemisphere country of 5 million people can punch way above its weight.
